Frequent questions

how do i purchase an original?

There are many ways! Laura is a prolific painter, creating new work regularly. She makes as many new pieces as possible available directly through her studio, here on her website. She also works with many spectacular galleries across the United States, and Japan. Those galleries are listed in the “about” section, and you can view the work they currently have directly on their websites. If you can not find a painting that fits your space you can order a custom canvas.

You can sign up to receive our studio newsletter to be notified when new originals are available. You can also follow Laura on instagram where she often posts as paintings are becoming available.

what is a custom canvas?

A custom canvas is similar to a commission, but a bit simplified. With a custom canvas, you select a painting Laura has completed to serve as the primary inspiration, and then select the size you would like, and place your order. We get messages regularly from clients who fell in love with a painting, but the painting already sold. Or they found a painting they love and know it would be perfect for that space in their home, but it’s not quite the right size or orientation. We came up with this custom canvas concept to fulfill this need. It’s not quite as involved as a commission, and the pricing is outlined so you can decide what size fits in your budget.

can i commission a painting?

Yes! Laura takes commissions year round. Head on over to our commissions page for more information.

I need help deciding…

We are here to help! Send us photos of your space, including furnishings and accessories so we can get a full view of your color palette and style. Send measurements of the available wall space. We can mock up your space with Laura’s artwork in it to show you size options and how the work will look overall. This can be very helpful in planning your artwork purchase. Please reach out!

How long does it take to create one of your paintings?

Laura works in oil paint, with a specific glazing tecnhique that builds many thin layers to create a spectacular translucent effect of depth and luminescence. Each layer takes 2-3 days to dry, so with more than 10 layers in each piece the paintings can take up to 8 weeks. Laura works on many paintings at a time, rotating the canvases around her studio, allowing for dry time between each layer.

How do i take care of my original?

Every painting that leaves Laura’s studio is coated with a varnish that protects it from slight abrasions and from UV light. The work will not fade or discolor over time. The work can be dusted with a cloth that has been dampened with water (no chemicals!).

do you offer framing?

We do! We believe that Laura’s paintings truly shine when they are framed, and encourage you to add a frame to your purchase. We have partnered with a terrific framer who creates frames in all sizes for us. When you add a frame to your order, your original or print will arrive framed and ready to hang.

do you ship overseas?

Absolutely! We ship worldwide. All items in the gift shop and the worldwide print shop ship worldwide for free. Original paintings, custom canvas and canvas prints also ship worldwide, but for an additional fee. If you would like a quote for shipping please contact us and provide your shipping address. We will always do our best to package the works in a way that reduces the cost of shipping. For larger works, we suggest having the canvas removed from the stretcher bars and shipped rolled in a tube, to be stretched at it’s final destination.

quality of your canvas prints?

All of our prints start out with a high quality scan of the original painting that can only be done by a professional print shop. The prints are then created using a large scale printer that uses a wide range of archival inks applied very finely. Canvas prints are printed on flat artist canvas and stretched over wooden stretcher bars, and coated with a UV protective varnish.  The prints are frequently mistaken for originals.

All reproductions are printed to order and take 7-10 days to produce.

What is the difference between your canvas prints and the prints in your worldwide print shop?

We understand it’s a little confusing, but it was important for us to offer free worldwide shipping on certain products. Our canvas prints are printed locally in California. This printer offers shipping worldwide, but because they are based in California the shipping rates for locations outside of the US are costly. We were thrilled to find a printer for the worldwide print shop whose quality meets our high standards and has facilities around the globe, allowing for the cost of shipping to be greatly reduced. They only offer a set selection of sizes, which are smaller than the sizes we offer in the canvas print shop. We felt this partnership was worthwhile so we are able to offer prints at a more affordable rate to our clients outside of the US.
